Taekwondo members from the Bishan Community Club, led by Mr Rocky Go, performed at the Martial Arts Demonstration Day held at its premises on 17 January 2016.

Mr Go said, “It was a very good performance despite having only 6 demonstrators.  I am glad that the members exercised good team spirit and the seniors showed good leadership in taking care of the event and guiding the juniors.”

Members of the national squad, including our SEA Games medallists, were invited to perform at the 28th SEA Games Appreciation Night on Tuesday 14 July 2015 at Swissotel Stamford Ballroom.

Despite the short notice from the organizer, the squad gave an awesome performance which wowed the audience.

STF President Mr Milan Kwee received the token of appreciation from Ministers Tan Chuan-Jin and Lawrence Wong on behalf of the STF.

The performance was well received by the huge crowd.  The VIPs present included Mr Lawrence Wong (Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Ministry of Communications and Information) and Mr Lim Teck Yin (Chief Executive Officer, SportSG)

Randee Ng (Deputy Head, Supply Chain Management FS, SportSG) said, “The young TKD team put on a very gold show”.

Parents and members of the national training squads were also present to support our young performers.

Mr Kim’s idea of getting the coaches into the team is to give them the opportunity to play a role in the development of taekwondo in Singapore.

All coaches are encouraged to take advantage of this invitation not only to be part of the demonstration team but also to contribute to the profile of the team.

Taekwondo was featured. Taking the stage to lead more than one thousand non-martial artists, almost exclusively residents of Nee Soon GRC, through their paces was Mr Daniel Kim, STF Demonstration Chairman.

Said Daniel, “I was delighted that the participants enjoyed the moves. They are certainly good learners. While some of them found the movements difficult in the beginning, they proved that they had what it took to master the skills.”

Mr Andrew Foong, the Organizing Chairman of the event thanked the Singapore Taekwondo Federation for its support.

The fluid taekwondo dance movements were choreographed by Mr Daniel Kim who had been appointed recently as the Vice-Chairman of the Demonstration Committee.

Mr Tan Cheng Hui, Demonstration Committee Chairman, who supervised the overall performance said: “I was happy with the performance considering that the participants did not have much time to practice because the music for the other groups in our segment came in quite late. We could work on the steps only after we received the music. Our performers have to work overtime to learn the steps and achieve good co-ordination.”

All our participants enjoyed the experience and were glad that they volunteered to be part of the taekwondo group in the event.

They were selected to represent the Singapore Taekwondo Federation at the event after being spotted for their impressive display at the 2012 National Demonstration Tournament.

Before the kids took the spotlight, Chelsea Sim, Commonwealth Taekwondo Poomsae Champion, kicked off the demonstration with an immaculate performance of Koryo Poomsae. Her awesome high side kicks drew ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ from the crowd.

As if not to be undone, the kids earned for themselves resounding applause every time they displayed some fanciful moves. The star of the group was 9 years old Yeo Shi Zhen. The crowd simply loved her not only for her cuteness but also her skills.

Taekwondo was one of the four sports in the school calendar featured at the ceremony to officially mark the start of the Games.

As the event was supported by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF), the Management decided to purchase tickets for regular volunteers of the organization. Those who picked up their tickets certainly did not regret doing so as they had a great time.

In appreciation of the support of the STF, HE Oh Joon presented Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, with framed posters of the event.

The show provided a different way of presenting the beauty and uniqueness of taekwondo. It highlighted extreme taekwondo performance with a storyline which was simply about the eventual victory of good over evil. If kicking, punching and breaking were not enough, the audience had a complete entertainment for the night as they were treated to Korean music and dance and mesmerized by the electrifying drum performance.

At the end of the show, the audience had plenty of photo opportunities with the stars. Sure enough, many took pictures with the performers and some took autographed planks.

• Officiated at least two days in the 2012 national kyorugi championships.
• Officiated at least two days in the 2012 national poomsae championships.
• Officiated at least two days in the national inter-school.

Volunteers who have been inadvertently left out may approach their respective Chairmen for the tickets.
