<p>Congratulations to athlete Mr. Marius Madsen and Coach Joel Kong for winning the Singapore’s very first Gold Medal at the inaugural First World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.<br><br>The championship is being held at Manama, Bahrain on 26 and 27 Nov 2024. Mr. Marius competed in the P52 Senior Male on 26 Nov 2024 and emerged as the Champion for this event.<br><br>The STF is extremely proud of Mr. Marius’s outstanding performance and achievement at the championships.</p>



<p>The Federation and its Para Taekwondo Sub-committee will continue to promote Para Taekwondo in Singapore to enable more people to experience and support the sport.</p>

<p>Team Singapore Virtual Taekwondo delivered a stellar performance at the Muju Taekwondowon 2024 International Open Virtual Taekwondo Championships, under the guidance of Team Managers Mr. Johnny Lim and Mr. Alvin Tan and Trainer Mr. Cullen Ang. The Championships showcases Virtual Taekwondo – a non-combat sport which replicates the movements of Taekwondo as athletes wear a headset and AXIS system to compete in a virtual space, regardless of age or gender.<br><br>The first day of the Championships saw Team Singapore Virtual Taekwondo making an impressive debut. The squad, comprising Justin Peh, Ng Tze Shayne, Nigel Tan Wei Reng, Tan Jia Wei, Lim Zi Wei, Janelle Chia, and Daycia Low, competed in both the Individual Male and Female events. The team&#8217;s efforts were rewarded with remarkable success. Justin Peh clinched the Gold medal in the Individual Male event, while Tan Jia Wei secured the Gold in the Individual Female event. In addition, Lim Zi Wei and Janelle Chia earned Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, in the Individual Female category.<br><br>The second day of the Championships further showcased Team Singapore Virtual Taekwondo&#8217;s dominance. Tan Jia Wei once again shone brightly, achieving Gold in the Individual Mixed Category while Lim Zi Wei and Justin Peh added to the medal tally with Silver and Bronze, respectively. With two female athletes and one male athlete on the podium, the mixed category reinforced that Virtual Taekwondo is a sport which is accessible to all irrespective of gender.<br><br>The highlight of the Championships came with Team Singapore&#8217;s triumph in the Senior Mixed Team event, the team emerged victorious, overcoming the team from Korea to claim the Gold medal. Team Singapore’s exceptional performance at the Muju Taekwondowon 2024 International Open Virtual Taekwondo Championships has set a new benchmark for Virtual Taekwondo. Their impressive medal haul and successful display in both individual and team events highlight the sport’s potential and the dedication of the athletes. The success of Team Singapore Virtual Taekwondo would not be possible without the support from various stakeholders.<br><br>STF would like to extend our gratitude to the generosity of the Organising Committee, World Taekwondo, SNOC, SportSG and the Taekwondo fraternity for the endless support. <p>A team of Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) National Development Squad (NDS) athletes has departed on 8 July 2024 to participate in the 2024 Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.<br><br>The team, which consists of a mixture of Cadet, Junior and Senior Poomsae and Kyorugi NDS, will be competing in the Recognised Poomsae and Kyorugi Event, held from 10 – 14 July 2024.<br><br>The team is led by our National Coaches, Coach Lee Na Lee (Poomsae) and Coach Ko Jae Pil (Kyorugi).<br></p>



<p>We would like to thank all the parents for their strong support and we wish the athletes success and an enriching experience at the Championships</p>

<p>The Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games was held from 28 to 30 October 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Taekwondo was one of the 17 martial arts and combat sports that was competed during the three day spectacular.</p>



<p><br>For Taekwondo, the top 10 athletes from the Goyang 2022 world Taekwondo Poomsae Championships were invited to participate in the Games. Yap Zong Han Darren, who was 7th in the Men’s Individual Freestyle Poomsae in Goyang, represented Singapore.</p>



<p><br>Building on his excellent performances in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia and 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, Darren finished in 3rd place with a score of 9.10 to take home the bronze medal!</p>



<p><br>Congratulations to Darren for his continuing excellence and his achievement in the Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games! Special thanks to the dedicated Coach Lee Na Lee who accompanied Darren for the championships!</p>

Darren Yap put up a strong performance in the Male Freestyle Poomsae event and narrowly missed out on the podium finish by one spot. The Male Team Poomsae consisting of Aloysius yeo, Nicholas Khaw and Ranen Fong put up a strong fight and performed well to clinch the bronze medal. Diyanah Aqidah who competed in the Female Individual event, put up another solid performance and clinched the silver medal in the event. The last event of our team for the day was the Mixed Pair event which Diyanah Aqidah and Ranen Fong performed well to clinch the bronze medal.</p>



<p>Team Singapore Taekwondo poomsae team ended the first day of competitions with the medal haul of 1 silver and 2 bronzes.<br>Following the Poomsae event, the kyorugi team were up next competing over the next three days from 13 to 15 May 2023. The kyorugi events started with Keston Pang who competed in the Male -54kg. Keston Pang put up a great performance and achieved a bronze medal. Nur Fadzlyn competed in the Female -49kg category and Xavier Tan in the Male -74kg category. Nur Fadzlyn put up a strong fight and performed well to clinch the bronze medal while Xavier Tan put up a valiant performance and put up a strong fight. The kyorugi events ended off with Nichelle Tan who competed in the Gemale -53kg category and Dylan Chia who competed in the Male -63kg category. Both of our Kyorugi athletes put up a strong fight against their opponents and performed their best in their respective category.</p>



<p>Team Singapore Taekwondo Kyorugi team ended the 3 days of Kyorugi events with a medal haul of 2 bronzes.<br>This brings a total of 1 silver and 4 bronze medals for Team Singapore Taekwondo. STF would like to congratulate the National Team for their outstanding performance and achievement at the 32nd SEA Games and thank you coaches and athletes for flying the Singapore flag high.</p>



<p>On top of that, STF would also like to congratulate Mr Darren Lee for receiving one of the three Best Referee award for Taekwondo. We would also like to thank Mr Michael Ho, Mr Roy Tan and the rest of the international referees for their tireless efforts to ensure the smooth running of SEA Games. We would also like to give special thanks and mention to Mr Eric Li, who accompanied as the team physio for the second year running. Beyond accompanying the team during the last two SEA Games, he also supported the team by visiting the team before the commencement of the SEA Games.</p>



<p>Lastly, the federation would like to extend our gratitude to the Taekwondo fraternity for their unwavering support, SNOC, and SportSG for their leadership and support, and family and friends for their care and concern. We would also like to thank Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliament for MCCY, Mr Edmund Lim, Assistant Secretary General of SNOC and Mr Antony Lee, Director Projects of SNOC for supporting our athletes at the Games.</p>

<p>SNOC&#8217;s president Mr Tan Chuan Jin accompanied by 31st South East Asian Games chef de mission Mr S Sinnathurai and SNOC’s Assistant Secretary-General Mr. Edmund Lim visited the team to congratulate our athletes on their winning.</p>

<p>The World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships was successfully held from 21-24 April 2022 in Goyang Korea. Over 2000 athletes from 70 countries participated in the beautiful city of Goyang.</p>



<p>The Singapore Team, in spite of a two-years hiatus performed admirably at the world stage. The Junior Male Team, comprising of Aloysius Yeo, Ranen Fong and Nicholas Khaw, put up a brilliant performance to reach the Finals and eventually achieved a 5th placing in the Finals with a fearless performance. Nicholas Khaw also participated in the Junior Male Individual event and cleared two cut-off rounds to reach the finals where he also achieved a 5th placing. The Junior Female Team, comprising of Amelia Tan, Germaine Loi and Louise Ng and Junior Female Individual athlete but were shy of reaching the next round. Germaine Loi, in her Junior Female individual event and with Ranen Fong in the Junior Pair event also did admirably to clear their preliminary rounds but closely missed the cut for the finals.</p>



<p>Our senior athletes also performed well in their categories. Brandon Low and Diyanah Aqidah Binte Mhammad Dian Khudhairi performed well in their individual categories against strong opponents. The U30 Female Team, comprising of Diyanah Aqidah, Megan Chin and Tan Wei Jia also did well in their semi-finals but missed the cut for the finals. The U30 Male Team, comprising of Brandon Low, Darren Yap and Dixon Ho did very well in their semi-finals, but only missed the cut by 1 placing for the finals as their presentation scores were slightly lower even though they had the same total score.</p>



<p>Besides recognized Poomsae events, the Singapore team also participated in the freestyle event. Darren Yap participated in the Over 17 Male Individual category and performed brilliantly in the semi-finals by placing 8th in a strong field of 23 participants to reach the finals. He eventually improved on his placing to by one and was 7th in the finals.</p>



<p>The championship was not only participated by our young athletes. Sister Linda Sim won the gold medal in the Recognized Individual Female Over 65 category despite facing stiff competition. This is a fantastic result for the high kicking nun, and a tribute to the longevity that Taekwondo instils. This is Singapore’s first gold medal in a World Championship and the Federation is extremely proud of Sister Linda Sim for her stellar accomplishment Sister Linda embodies the tenets and values of Taekwondo and has been an inspiration to the global community.</p>



<p>The Federation will like to congratulate Sister Linda Sim and the other athletes for giving their best at the world stage. While the last few years has its fill of challenges, the Federation had worked quietly to improve on our governance and high performance. Under the guidance of the Interim Management Committee, the Board, the High Performance Committee, and Coaches Ms. Lee Na Lee and Mr. Lee Jun Seong, our athletes have delivered results exceeding expectations. We believe that this is only the beginning of a brighter future for Singapore Taekwondo.</p>
