Farewell to Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Melvyn Fones

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like inform all affiliates that the last day of service for our Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Melvyn Fones, will be today, 7 August 2026.

During his tenure, CEO Melvyn played a key role in streamlining STF’s operational processes, driving administrative efficiency and improving efficiency across our organisation. His contributions have established a stronger operational foundation to support our members, athletes and the wider Taekwondo community in Singapore.

On behalf of the Board, Secretariat and the entire Singapore Taekwondo family, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to CEO Melvyn for his dedicated service and leadership. We wish him all the best and continued success in his future endeavours.

Registration Now Open: SG Coach Taekwondo Level 2 (Full Integration) – First Come, First Served

Singapore Coach Excellence (SG Coach) Taekwondo Level 2 Full Integration Program comprises of SG Coach Theory Level 2, Intermediate Sport Science (ISS) & Taekwondo Technical Components.

The course will be conducted with a combination of online modules, practical sessions and assessments. Full attendance is required to meet the course requirements.

Registration closes on Monday, 24 August 2026 at 4:00pm. As slots are limited, registrations will be confirmed upon verification of all required documents. STF reserves the right to ensure fair distribution of slots amongst the affiliate club participants.

TEMPORARY SUSPENSION – MR. JAHANGIR KHAN GAFFOOR

Mr Jahangir Khan Gaffoor is involved in a Safe Sport investigation and he has been placed on the SportSG’s Safe Sport Watchlist. His National Registry of Coaches (NROC) membership is not suspended as it has expired.

As an interim measure only (without any determination whatsoever by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) of liability or misconduct on his part, Mr Jahangir Khan Gaffoor is temporarily suspended from all Singapore Taekwondo Federation activities. His suspension shall be in effect until the conclusion of the aforesaid investigation. The STF will review the results of the investigation before taking any further action.

Take notice that nothing herein, whether express or implied, is to be taken as a finding (or allegation) by the STF of any misconduct by Mr Jahangir Khan Gaffoor.

As Mr Jahangir Khan Gaffoor is currently non contactable, the STF is assisting the Peoples Association and the parents of his trainees regarding their grading cards.

Calling for Volunteers for GetActive! Singapore2026 Pesta Sukan Taekwondo Competition!

We would like to shout out to everyone to join us as Team Nila for GetActive! Singapore 2026 Pesta Sukan Taekwondo competition! You will be undertaking the role of a Team Nila Volunteer, assisting in the field of play areas and be directly involved in the running of the competition during Games Times.

Volunteers will be involved in the following:

  • Athletes Services
  • Logistics
  • Sport Tryout
  • Scoring / Results Operator
  • Victory Ceremony
    The above list is non-exhaustive and staff in-charge may delegate additional tasks to volunteers based on operational needs.
    Shift timings are subject to changes based on competition schedule.

NOTE
Attire: Team Nila Lion T-shirt, pants (no ripped jeans), covered shoes.
New Volunteers: Refer to the FAQ on https://go.gov.sg/tshirt-for-new-tn and collect your Team Nila Lion T-shirt from the appointed distributor before your first volunteering shift.

BYOB: Bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated. Water refill points are available on site.
Travel light as there is no storage space for your belongings.
Upon successful registration, volunteers will be added into a WhatsApp chatgroup for further coordination by Team Nila Volunteer Leaders (TNVL). Updated information will be disseminated via the chatgroup.

Registration Fee (Inclusive of 9% GST):

  • $76.30 per participant for individual, pair & team
  • $152.60 per sibling & family category
    All coaches and athletes must be registered on the Fitofan platform under their teams

What is the role about?

You will be primarily responsible in formulating, developing and executing the sport pathway and capabilities development of Kyorugi in Singapore in accordance with the Singapore Taekwondo Federation’s (STF) Multi-Year Sports Plan (MYSP) and High-Performance Plan.

Under the supervision of STF’s High Performance Committee (HPC) and working closely with the Secretariat, the National Kyorugi Coach will be responsible in the following areas:

  1. To formulate, develop and implement short term (6-month to 2-year plan, 2026 to 2027), medium term (3 to 4-year plan, 2026 to 2030, 2 x SEA Games and 1 x Asian Games cycles) and long term plans (6-year to 8-year plan and beyond) for the sport pathway and elite athlete development programmes for the National Kyorugi athletes in Singapore.
  2. To submit regular progress reports to the STF High Performance Committee for performance tracking.
  3. To prepare and submit the Yearly Planning Instrument (YPI) for the Youth Team (Cadet & Junior) or Senior Team.
  4. To develop customised individual plans for selected number of athletes who have been earmarked for Major Games.
  5. To train the national athletes/national development squad in preparation for the various competitions, which includes but is not limited to the Major Games, National Championships, local and overseas competitions.
  6. To inculcate sportsmanship and the values of required of a Team Singapore athlete.
  7. To train national athletes to achieve podium success at:
    • Major Championships such as Asian Championship and World Championship.
    • Major Games (South-east Asian Games and Asian Games) with the goal of Olympic Games qualification.
  8. Major Championships such as Asian Championship and World Championship.
  9. Major Games (South-east Asian Games and Asian Games) with the goal of Olympic Games qualification.
  10. To plan and organise training camps (local and overseas) with clear objectives and desired outcomes.
  11. To scout/identify Cadets and Juniors/Seniors potential Kyorugi athletes and be endorsed by High Performance Committee.
  12. To ensure that appropriate supervision, directly or indirectly, is provided to all athletes during trainings to ensure the athletes’ safety.
  13. To engage local coaches/clubs and conduct coaching seminars/workshops/courses/clinics annually.
  14. To mentor local coaches who are identified and recommended by High Performance Committee/the Board with the purposes as assistant national trainer(s)/coach(es) during the contract period

Development

  1. To partner Technical Committee and relevant Chairs to advance the knowledge of local Coaches through the Coaching Development Programmes (CDP)
  2. To work with SportSG to develop and carry out the sport science and evidence-based development initiatives related to the Athletes Development Programmes and CDP.
  3. To work with stakeholders such as High Performance Sports Institute to develop and implement methods for testing athletes’ potential and current athletes’ performance using sport science and technology.

Qualifications

  • Degree with a major in sport science, physical education, sports management/administration or similar qualification in Taekwondo
  • World Taekwondo International Coach Certification Level 2 and above
  • Proven outstanding Kyorugi technical skills and ability to continue to demonstrate and teach these technical skills
  • Asian Games medalist or equivalent desired
  • Proven records of athletes’ achievement at regional/international championships and major Games preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of international coaching experience desired
