Singapore, 23 November 2025 — The SG60 Our Legends Taekwondo Championships, an event hosted collaboratively by Our Tampines Hub, Tampines West CSN, and the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF), concluded on 23 November 2025 with a highly anticipated and significant demonstration of skills, feats and perseverance. The championship is specially organised to celebrate the Nation’s 60th birthday, colloquially known as Singapore60 or SG60, and is structured to be inclusive of all Singapore Taekwondo participants aged 30 and above. What was perhaps the most dazzling for this championship was the Taekwondo demonstration that featured two particularly notable senior cohorts, TeamgOLD (comprising members aged 50 years and above) and Club Diamond (comprising members aged 60 years and above), whose comprehensive display of skill served as a focal point of the event.

The Minister Masagos, Minister for Social and Family Development, served as the esteemed Guest of Honour, providing official recognition to the championship’s core objective, the formal promotion of lifelong physical fitness and community engagement through martial arts. The key segment of the afternoon programme was the collective demonstration presented by these most senior practitioners, effectively validating the principle that martial arts expertise and discipline are enduring qualities, largely independent of chronological age.

Technical Exhibition of Power and Precision TeamgOLD and Team Diamond undertook a technical demonstration, distinct from competitive sparring, specifically to exhibit their persistent proficiency and physical conditioning. This was not a gentle exhibition but a vigorous performance featuring techniques refined over decades of dedicated practice.

The participants executed complex, perfectly synchronized patterns (Poomsae), which highlighted exceptional dynamic balance, intense concentration, and meticulous technical precision. The professionalism and disciplined execution of the routine by these senior athletes were evident and elicited considerable appreciation from the audience.

The demonstration reached its deliberate climax with the execution ofPoomsae, unarmed tactics, and feats involving board breaking. Practitioners from both TeamgOLD and Club Diamond, including those exceeding seventy years of age, approached the breaking station with notable composure and formidable intent. Employing sharp, focused biomechanical movements, they successfully deployed powerful kicks and strikes, resulting in the clean fracture of solid wooden planks. Each successful outcome garnered substantial acclamation, symbolically challenging conventional perceptions regarding physical limitations and capabilities associated with advanced age. The technical merit of the performance served as an inspirational testament, promoting sustained commitment to physical activity among all demographic sectors.
Commendation of Enduring Commitment
This championship was established to formally recognize the sustained dedication and physical resilience demonstrated by Singapore’s mature Taekwondo practitioners. The name of the championship, “Our Legends”, also appropriately reflects the exemplary status of the Taekwondo practitioners, especially TeamgOLD and Club Diamond participants, as they embody the fundamental tenets of Taekwondo; courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.

The capabilities exhibited by these senior cohorts, particularly those surpassing the age of 60 (some of the practitioners are into their 70s and 80s!) provided irrefutable evidence regarding the sport’s significant efficacy in promoting holistic physical and mental welfare across the entire lifespan. The championship successfully spotlighted the immense potential and enduring vitality inherent in Singapore’s older generation, definitively establishing TeamgOLD and Club Diamond not simply as legends of the sport’s history, but as definitive role models who have set a formidable and inspiring new benchmark for lifelong excellence in the martial arts community.
