Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, attended the WTF Council Meeting which was held on Friday 7 June 2013 in the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland. Before the start of the meeting two memoranda of understanding were signed by the WTF – one, with the Cereberal Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association and the other with the International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability. The collaboration was an important milestone for the WTF in bringing taekwondo into the Paralympic Games. The five-hour long meeting covered many important areas for the development of the sport. Many decisions were made. Some of which included the following:
- The WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships would be held from 28 to 30 November 2013 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
- The 9th World Poomsae Championships would be held in Mexico in 2014.
- The biennial World Taekwondo Championships would be staged from 16 to 23 September 2015 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
- The 10th World Poomsae Championships will be organized by Vietnam Taekwondo Federation in 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The introduction of the WTF World Taekwondo Grand-Prix was another significant measure to further enhance the status of the sport. Said Mr Kwee: “It was a productive meeting. More importantly, the direction had been set for a more active and dynamic WTF.”
