Competitive Championships

The National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships held from 22 to 26 April 2013 would be remembered for their competitiveness resulting from better performances by the players and performers.

While many ‘kyorugi’ matches were closely fought, only 0.1 point differentiated the gold and silver medalists in the various categories of the poomsae event. And for the overall results in some divisions, only one or two points separated the top two schools.

In the ‘A’ Division (Female), Hwa Chong Institution edged Temasek Junior College, a powerhouse in the competition, to second place by only one point.

Springfield Secondary School, the defending champion, had to hand its ‘B’ Division (Male) title to Bowen Secondary School after it finished just one point shy of what it required to tie for first place.

It was sweet revenge for Temasek Primary School when it beat St Anthony’s Canossian Primary School. Last year St Anthony’s took the title garnering three points more than Temasek. This year, Temasek managed to capture the crown by having two points more than its closest rival, St Anthony’s.

It had been an exciting and energy-sapping five-day competition for participants and officials. But it was all worth it as the competition was successfully and smoothly conducted.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) was grateful to the support of officials, referees, medical team and volunteers. They were the life line of the championships. Without their untiring devotion to the operations of the competition, it would not have been possible to for the championships to be staged. The STF recognized that they were the true heroes who made the champions in the competition.

The overall and detailed results are attached.
