Notice on Grading

STF would like to reiterate the importance for all coaches and affiliate owners to ensure the affiliate’s grading are done in accordance with the guidelines set.

Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action taken against the Affiliate and / or the STF Qualified Grading Assessor.

Guideline for STF Grading Assessors / Affiliate Owners:

  • Details on the conduct of grading (including the date, time, venue, name of assessor) must be submit to STF at least 1 week in advance. Failure to do so may result in action taken against the affiliate and / or the assessor.
  • After the grading is conducted, grading results must be submitted to STF office within 2 weeks. STF Secretariat will tally with the grading results provided before approving the results on the grading cards. Failure to do so may result in action taken against the affiliate and / or the assessor.
  • Signature on the grading cards by the qualified STF Grading Assessor will be checked against the specimen signature provided by the STF Grading Assessors.
  • All gradings performed must be attached with the Grading Information Slip to indicate the details of grading assessed, i.e. number of students graded, date and time. This form may be retrieved from the STF website.

Note:

  • For Foundation to Red 2, grading can only be done by qualified STF Grading Assessors who have successfully completed the Grading Assessor Accreditation Course and is a holder of a valid STF Assessor Licence.
  • All double promotions grading must be seen and signed off by Appointed STF Examiners.
  • STF reserves the right to audit any grading conducted.
  • The assessor licence will expire in the event the assessor who has been accredited has ceased to practice taekwondo and/or ceased employment at the affiliate(s). In this instance, the affiliates may submit a new application for assessor.
  • If an affiliate does not have any member who is able to fulfil the Grading Assessor licence application criteria, the affiliates may seek the assistance of any licensed assessor to grade their dojang students from the grade of Foundation to R2.
  • If the affiliate is unable to engage the assistance of any licensed assessor, the affiliate may write to STF to engage the service (payable) of STF’s examiner.
  • You may refer to the list of Appointed STF Examiners and Qualified STF Assessors on STF website.

Changes to STF Board Appointments

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) wishes to announce that Mr Steven Lam has temporarily relinquished his positions as Treasurer and Chair of the Disciplinary Committee. Assistant Treasurer Mr Koh Chin Beng has been appointed Acting Treasurer and Mr Gan Guo Bin, also a board member, will be the Acting Chair of the Disciplinary Committee.

3RD ASIAN YOUTH GAMES – UPDATED COMPETITION EVENTS BASED ON TECHNICAL HANDBOOK V1

The Organising Committee for 3rd Asian Youth Games, Bahrain 2025 has shared the Technical Handbook(V1) for Taekwondo.

The events for Taekwondo have been revised. With the revised events, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation Selection Policy for 3rd Asian Youth Games has been updated accordingly as of 23 June 2025.

RECRUITMENT OF SINGAPORE TAEKWONDO FEDERATION (STF) ASSISTANT NATIONAL COACH (KYORUGI) (CLOSING 30 JUNE 2025)

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) seeks to engage an Assistant National Coach to assist the national coach in formulating, developing and executing the sport pathway and capabilities development of Kyorugi in Singapore. In addition to training the national athletes/national development squad to win medals at the Major Games, e.g. South-east Asia Games, Asian Games, etc for podium success, the Assistant National Coach would be required to engage local coaches/clubs in their promotion and development of Kyorugi through regular and structured seminars/workshops.

What is the role about?

You will be primarily responsible to assist the national coach in formulating, developing and executing the sport pathway and capabilities development of Kyorugi in Singapore in the Singapore Taekwondo Federation’s (STF) Multi-Year Sports Plan (MYSP) and High-Performance Plan. It is more than training national athletes/national development squad for podium success. It also includes engaging the local coaches/clubs in their promotion and development of Kyorugi through regular and structured seminars/workshops. This is with the aim to establish strong foundation in Kyorugi towards preparation for 2029 SEA Games to be held in Singapore. As a collaborative leader you will also play a critical role as a role model to our National Athletes and in building sustainable relationships with key stakeholders.

Role Summary

Under the supervision of STF’s High Performance Committee and working closely with the Secretariat and the National Coach, the Assistant National Coach (Kyorugi) will be responsible in the following areas:

  1. To assist the National coach in formulating, developing and implementing short term (6-month to 2 years plan, 2024 to 2025), medium term (3 to 4 years plan, 2024 to 2027, 2 SEA Games and 1 Asian Games cycles) and long term plans (6 years to 8 years plan and beyond, 2024 to 2030 to being with) for the sport pathway and capabilities development of the National Taekwondo athletes in Singapore as well as the coaches to establish strong foundation in Kyorugi in preparation for SEA Games 2029
  2. To assist in submitting to High Performance Committee training plans both local and overseas, sports pathway and capabilities development plans.
  3. To assist in preparing and submitting the Yearly Planning Instrument (YPI) for three categories namely cadet, junior and senior.
  4. To assist in developing customised individual plans for selected number of athletes who have been earmarked for Major Games.
  5. To train the national athletes/national development squad in preparation for the various competitions, which includes but is not limited to the Major Games, National Championships, local and overseas competitions.
  6. To train national athletes to achieve podium success at major championships such as Asian Championship and World Championship.
  7. To assist the National Coach to have national athletes qualified and selected to compete in Kyorugi events in the next edition of 2027 SEA Games.
  8. To assist the National Coach in training the National Athletes to achieve medals at 2025 and 2027 SEA Games.
  9. To assist the National Coach to have national athletes qualified and selected to compete in 2026 Asian Games.
  10. To coach the team during overseas trainings and competitions and assist with Poomsae when required.
  11. To scout/identify cadets and Juniors/Seniors potential Kyorugi athletes and be endorsed by High Performance Committee.
  12. To ensure that appropriate supervision, directly or indirectly, is provided to all athletes during trainings to ensure the athletes’ safety.
  13. To engage local coaches/clubs and conduct coaching seminars/workshops/courses/clinics annually.
  14. To mentor local coaches who are identified and recommended by High Performance Committee/the Board with the purposes as assistant national trainer(s)/coach(es) during the contract period.

Development

  1. To partner Technical Committee and relevant Chairs to advance the knowledge of local Coaches through the Coaching Development Programmes (CDP)
  2. To work with SportSG to develop and carry out the sport science and evidence-based development initiatives related to the Athletes Development Programmes and CDP.
  3. To work with stakeholders such as High Performance Sports Institute to develop and implement methods for testing athletes’ potential and current athletes’ performance using sport science and technology.

Qualifications

  • Degree with a major in sport science, physical education, sports management/administration or similar qualification in Taekwondo
  • World Taekwondo International Coach Certification Level 1 and above
  • Proven outstanding Kyorugi technical skills and ability to continue to demonstrate and teach these technical skills
  • Asian Games medalist or equivalent desired
  • Proven records of athletes’ achievement at regional/international championships and major Games preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of international coaching experience desired

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  3. Please ensure that ALL grading cards are properly completed and duly endorsed. A recent photograph of the candidate must be attached

  4. For ALL candidates who are going for 1st Dan/Poom & above, please have the following documents during submission:
    a) Candidate’s grading card
    b) 1 recent IC / passport photograph of the candidate
    c) Form B (duly completed)

Submission will not be accepted if any of the documents is not available or, for Form B, partially completed.

  1. The last day of submission (Junior Red 1 & above, Senior Red 1 to 3rd Dan) is on 20 June 2025 (Friday). Any submission after this date will be considered as LATE SUBMISSION
  1. Late submissions for candidates taking Red 1 & above are to be done within two (2) weeks from 23 June 2025 (Monday). Submission beyond the grace period of two (2) weeks WILL NOT be accepted. An administrative fee will be charged accordingly for late submission within grace period. The charges are as follows:

  1. A roll call will be taken at 1.30pm for Red 1 (Senior) candidates going for 1st dan and 2.30pm for 1st dan and higher candidates. Those who miss the roll call will be considered as ABSENT or LATECOMERS. Latecomers will not be graded.
  2. Candidates are to turn up in proper dress code (as stipulated by the STF) for the grading. Candidates who fail to comply with the dress code will not be allowed to take the grading.
  3. Supplementary Grading can only be conducted two (2) weeks before or after the Centralised Grading and will be subjected to the approval of the Grading Department.
  4. While STF will take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the grading procedure, Candidates will take all reasonable steps to ensure their own safety at all times and will not hold the Federation, the Grading Department or any of its servants, employees or agents responsible for any such injuries, accidents or mishaps that may befall on them during the course of the grading.

SUPPLEMENTARY GRADING

1. For clubs that wish to conduct supplementary grading for Junior 1st Poom to 4th Poom, a minimum number of 25 candidates is required.

2. Please register with the STF Secretariat by 20 June 2025 (Tuesday).

3. An examiner will be assigned by the Federation after the closing date.

COLOUR BELTS

  1. The last day of submission for colour belts (club grading) is on 6 Augest 2025 (Wednesday). Any submission after this date will be considered as LATE SUBMISSION.
  2. An administrative fee of SGD 5.00 will be charged for late submission of candidates taking all other grades except Brown 1 & above.

Congratulations To Ms Lim Hui Hsien International Kyorugi Referee

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like to congratulate Ms Lim Hui Hsien for attaining the qualification of 3rd Class International Kyorugi Referee at the 128th International Kyorugi Referee Seminar conducted by World Taekwondo that was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Becoming an international referee is a journey that requires more than just knowledge of the rules. It requires courage, confidence, and the ability to lead with integrity.” (Lim Hui Hsien)

It is our hope more Singapore national referees will come forward to be International Referees and contribute to the promotion and development of taekwondo.
