Caring for Others

0

NTU Taekwondo Club under the leadership of Mr Victor Ho, its 25th President, visited Assisi Hospice on Friday 17 May 2013 on Upper Thomson Road to bring joy to the participants who were suffering from terminal illness.

The group spent about 2 hours at the Hospice entertaining them with a taekwondo demonstration and some games like ‘guess the song’, ‘drawing competition’ and ‘bingo’.

Said Victor: “One of the things that really touched me is that, despite their illness, the patients displayed enthusiasm in participating in the activities. I was impressed with their creativity displayed by them during the ‘drawing competition’.”

He added: “Most importantly, I learned from Ms Yu, the Senior Volunteer Programme Executive, that the patients would be happy to see volunteers coming to visit them and organizing activities for them.

Members of the NTU Taekwondo Club has shown to that taekwondo is indeed a powerful tool which can be harnessed for the good of our society.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation looks forward to seeing more members living up to the true spirit of taekwondo.

  • If you are a Singapore Citizen (born in 1997 or 1998) and eligible for the training squad and aspire to represent Singapore in the World Qualification Tournament for the Youth Olympic Games in 2014, you should ask your coach to nominate you for inclusion into the kyorugi squad.
  • If you are a Singapore Citizen (born in 1998 or earlier) and keen to represent Singapore in the 2015 SEA Games which will be held in Singapore, you should also ask you coach to nominate you for inclusion into the poomsae and kyorugi squad.

You are invited to call Jolene, Theresa or Rosalind at 6345 1491 to register for admission into the squad.

The other criteria:

Humility and Perseverance Personified

Read the story of Eric Li, Jurong Junior College coach, in THE NEW PAPER of 14 May 2013.

Eric, who holds a 4th dan black belt, had demonstrated humility and perseverance – the values cultivated through his taekwondo training – to eventually find his way to University of Edinburgh to pursue a degree course in applied sports science.  The  taekwondo community is certainly proud of him for demonstrating the spirit of taekwonDO.

Said Dr Ho Mun Wai, 1st Vice-President of the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF): “Eric is a fine gentleman who is doing both the STF and the Republic Polytechnic proud.
