The event: UM MBW Taekwondo Open Championships held on 3 June 2012.
The tournament was recognized by Taekwondo Malaysia, the national governing body for taekwondo affiliated to the World Taekwondo Federation.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation congratulates Team Aljunied on their achievements.

To date only 11 clubs have submitted the names of their referees. Those participating clubs which have not done so are kindly requested to do so by calling the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) Secretariat at 6345 1491 or submitting their names by email to stf@singapore.com.

Samuel Lee Wei Kang. Joyce Lim Soon Yi, Jason Tan Junwei and Muhd Norhalim Bin Mohd Zahruddin were among the athletes honored for their sports achievements at the Singapore Sports Awards 2012. They received the meritorious award (individual).
The event, held on 29 May 2012 at Raffles Convention Centre, was attended by sports ‘who’s who’ including Mr Teo Chee Hean (Deputy Prime Minister and Singapore National Olympic Council President), Mr Chan Chun Sing (Minister for Community, Youth and Sports), Mr Ng Ser Miang (Vice-President, International Olympic Committee), Mr Richard Seow (Singapore Sports Council Chairman) and Presidents of various National Sports Associations.
That was not all. To land prestige to the occasion, the ceremony was graced by Dr Tony Tan, President of the Republic of Singapore, as the guest of honor.
The taekwondo community should be proud that taekwondo athletes were included in the honor list as not many sports had their athletes recognized.
Said Norhalim after receiving his award: “I have mixed feelings. While feeling honored and thankful because the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) had nominated me for the award, I am motivated to train harder for future competitions.”
Jason Tan, who had won the award three times before, said: “I feel happy and honored to be awarded. Most of all, I am grateful to my parents, the STF, my coaches and my teammates for their support. Without which, I will not be where I am today.”
Joyce and Samuel also felt honored and thankful for the awards.
STF President, Mr Milan Kwee, was present to witness the award ceremony. He congratulated the 4 taekwondo recipients on their achievements.

The World Taekwondo Federation has conducted poomsae refresher seminars in the Asian Continent in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (30 April to 2 May 2012) and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (14 to 18 May 2012) to introduce changes to the competition rules and update international referees on the finer points of poomsae performance.
While Tan Kok Heng and Lim Teong Chin attended the seminar in Vietnam, Tan Cheng Hui, Lee Thiam Poh and Wong Liang Ming participated in the seminar in Malaysia.
Although it is tempting to introduce the new rules for the coming National Poomsae Championships, it has been decided to put it on hold as the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like the poomsae referees and coaches to be familiar with them first.
Plans are afoot to organize the poomsae referee refresher course and the poomsae coach upgrading course after the National Poomsae Championships for next year’s competition.
The next grading preparation workshop will be held as follows:

During the workshop, participants will be briefed on the grading guidelines and the expectations of the examiners.
Coaches may use the information acquired by their students at the workshop as a basis to guide them for their grading.
All candidates who have attended the workshop are reminded to submit a copy of the certificate of participation with their grading applications. For red (junior) and 1st poom candidates, a copy of the certificate should be attached to their grading cards. This is necessary for the examiners to give them special consideration, if required.

Singapore finished 8th out of 21 Asian countries which participated in 2nd Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held on 5 May 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. As expected, Korea, Vietnam and Iran took the top three places.
Sending a team of 6 players – Sherman Wee Li Sheng, Joyce Lim Soon Yi, Linda Sim Ee Guay, Ng Lee Noi, Tan Cheng Hui and Wong Liang Ming, Singapore netted two bronze medals in the pair and team events. Their efforts were good enough for Singapore to earn the credible placing.

The placing would have been better if Joyce who entered the final twice, once in the individual event and another in the pair competition managed to give a medal-winning show.
However, Singapore two junior performers who competed a day earlier in the 1st Asian Junior Poomsae Championships were not able to get their names in the medal lists.
While Chelsea Sim slipped during her performance, Kang Rui Jie earned a place in the final by finishing third after impressing the judges with his fluid and powerful routine. In the final, Rui Jie could not produce the same performance and found his name missing from the top four.
Rui Jie and Chelsea went on to team up for the pair event. They got into the final but had to be contented with their 7th placing.
Singapore also participated in the kyorugi events which were staged after the poomsae competition from 6 to 11 May 2012. Fighting against world-class players, they gave of their best but it was not enough for them to return home with something to show for their efforts.
