In a letter to Mr Milan Kwee, President of the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF), Mr Choue Chungwon, President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), congratulated Mr Kwee on the extraordinary achievement of the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Said Mr Choue: “Your efforts created a well organized event that was praised by many. I am very proud of this successful accomplishment and all that you and your staff put into making it happen. Your entire staff proved that exemplary work can help to create a very smooth running event.

“I would like to congratulate and thank you for all of your efforts on the Youth Olympic Games. Please send my gratitude to Secretary General Wong Liang Ming, General Manager Lim Teong Chin and Council Member Andy Lee Thiam Poh for the roles they played in making the taekwondo competition a huge success.”

In response to Mr Choue’s letter, Mr Kwee, said, among other things: “We could not have done it without your excellent leadership and the support of WTF staff and officials including the technical delegate and all the international referees. The WTF demonstration team with their scintillating performances was a source of inspiration and excitement for many.

“On behalf of the taekwondo fraternity, I salute you for your indispensable guidance, generous contribution and constant encouragement in bringing the sport to another level of accomplishments.”

For the STF, the Youth Olympic Games taekwondo event has been good for the further development of the sport. It has provided a clearer picture of the pathways for taekwondo participants and demonstrated the capability of local officials in handling world-class events. Most importantly, the achievements of Singapore medalists, Daryl Tan Jia Jun and Nurul Shafinas Bte Abdul Rahman, have given hopes to our other young athletes for bigger things!
