Reminder to Coaches

0

All coaches are reminded that they should always be trainee-centered – that is having their students’ interest and welfare at heart.

Being trainee-centered means that you, as a coach, do not ask your students to report at the grading venue in the morning when the grading starts at 1.30pm. For Saturday’s grading, candidates need to be ready in their uniform before 1.30pm.

It will be reasonable for the candidates to be at the venue at the earliest 12.30pm to change into their uniform, get a feel of the venue, do a little warm-up and probably get some last-minute advice from their coaches.

If coaches want their students to be at the venue at, say, 10.00am for any reason, they (the coaches) must be present to guide and take care of them.

Warming-up for the grading must also be reasonable. What is unreasonable? Here is an example: Asking your students to run bare-footed round the athletics track at the adjacent stadium in the hot sun.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation encourages all its coaches to go the extra mile for their students.

Examiners Meet

0

Members of the Board of Examiners met on Friday 6 January 2012 to keep abreast with the latest development of the sport and the direction of Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) and also to update themselves on the latest grading requirements.

Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, took time off from his busy schedule to meet the examiners. He thanked them for their contributions and went on to fill them in on Singapore’s status in the international scene and STF plan to get more senior members to be internationally qualified.

After that, the Chairman of the Board provided the examiners with some feedback he received from coaches and parents. He reminded the examiners of their responsibilities and informed them of the changes. These included the scrapping of the modular grading and the introduction of a sparring workshop which will exempt successful participants from the grading components.

The examiners were also given a new list of interview questions. Participants of the Grading Workshop would be taught how to answer them.

For coaches who are reading this article, here are some of the possible questions which will give you some idea of what is coming up for your students:

  • Would you use vulgarities in you Facebook, Twitter or public conversation? Why?
  • If you want some information from you coach, how would you approach him and what would you say?
  • How can you give of your best during training?
  • Your friends ask you to join them in smoking. What do you think of it?
  • What have you done to show your teacher that you are a good person?

The meeting concluded with the sharing of good practices by the examiners. All examiners were encouraged to adopt them.

Chinese New Year Party

0

The President and Management Committee of the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) cordially invite all members of the various committees – for example grading committee, tournament committee, etc, club leaders, instructors and volunteers for a Chinese New Year Gathering which will be held on Friday 20 January 2011 at 7.00pm at the National Training Centre.

It will be a simple gathering which provides participants the opportunity to let their hair down, network and have fun. Food and soft drinks will be served.

If you are attending the event, please inform any of the Secretariat staff – Jolene, Theresa or Rosalind – by telephone (6345 1491) or email (stf@singapore.com). Chairmen of the various committees may co-ordinate with their members and informed the office the number from their committee coming.

Please do not just turn up. If you do, there will be insufficient food and drinks to go around. This would not be fair for those who have the courtesy to inform the organizer of their attendance.

The STF will only cater for those who inform the office that they will be attending so that there will be no wastage. Your co-operation is appreciated.

Have a great Lunar New Year!

Reminder on Kukkiwon Certification

0

The following article, posted on STF website on 2 June 2010 under ‘Local News’, serves as a reminder for those who are interested to apply for international certification.

KUKKIWON CERTIFICATION

Date 2010/6/2 22:50:00 | Topic: Local News

In response to numerous queries, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like to clarify on its Kukkiwon certification position.

The STF encourages all its poom and black belt holders, especially those who wish to participate in international competitions and seminars, to apply for Kukkiwon certification.

Those who are interested to apply for Kukkiwon certification should apply through their respective clubs.  The current rates including administrative fees are as follows.

  • 1st danS$125.00
  • 2nd danS$160.00
  • 3rd danS$210.00
  • 4th danS$265.00
  • 5th danS$525.00
  • 6th danS$615.00
  • 7th dan S$790.00

All qualified members of STF-affiliated clubs should apply for the certification immediately after the announcement of their grading results so that they will not lose out in their Kukkiwon ranking seniority.

For example if you obtain your 1st dan in January 2009 and 2nd dan in January 2010, you cannot apply for 2nd dan Kukkiwon in 2010 if you do not have a 1st dan Kukkiwon.  In that case, you have to apply for your 1st dan in January 2010 and wait for January 2011 before you can apply for the next grade.  That means you will be 1 year, in term of Kukkiwon grade, behind your contemporaries who had applied.

Kukkiwon certificates issued through the STF bear the signatures of both the Kukkiwon President and STF President.  Kukkiwon certificates without the signature of the STF President are not recognized by the STF.  And holders of such certificates will not receive the support and/or recommendation of STF for participation at competitions, courses and other activities organized or sanctioned by the following organizations:

  • International Olympic Committee
  • Asian Olympic Council
  • World Taekwondo Federation
  • Asian Taekwondo Union
  • Asean Taekwondo Federation

Please check with Jolene, Theresa or Rosalind at 63451491 if you require clarifications on the conversion process.
