The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is planning to organize a five-day enrichment program for its members in early December 2010. The program will focus on taekwondo which the NCC is hoping to introduce to all cadets next year as part of their training program.

As the national sports association for the sport, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) was asked to assist the NCC in getting the program off ground. STF and NCC representatives have met several times to discuss on a working relationship and other matters.

Recently the STF Management has appointed Mr Leon Koh as a co-ordinator for the running of the program.

The STF would like to invite all its coaches who wish to be involved in the program to attend a briefing.

The briefing will be held on Saturday 13 November 2010 at 2.30pm at the NTC (Geylang).

The briefing will entail the following:

  • What the NCC program is about?
  • What the STF plans to do?
  • Who will be qualified to coach?
  • What are the expectations of coaches?
  • How the coaches will be rewarded?

At the end of the briefing, the floor will be open to coaches who wish to seek clarifications pertaining to the program.

Changes in Poomsae Movements?

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) has received numerous email queries on the changes in poomsae movements. There is no change in the as far as the techniques are concerned. However, the ways some of the basic movements are executed have been modified.

Coaches should not be alarmed by the changes. The movements they had been taught are still acceptable at the moment for competition and grading.

The STF will be conducting a poomsae refresher course to update coaches on the changes and enlighten them on some aspects of poomsae performance like volume of movements, balance, tempo, rhythm and more. At the end of the course, participants will be able to appreciate the artistic performance of poomsae better.

Look out for the announcement on the course and be the first to learn about the changes as next year’s poomsae competition will be based on the latest performance standards.

He has officiated in five Singapore Taekwondo Federation sanctioned tournaments and clocked 44 hours to qualify for the promotion.

Congratulations, Melvin!

No More Taekwondo Coaching Course

0

The Taekwondo Coaching Course organized annually by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) will now be replaced by the NCAP Technical Course.

Before the change, those who successfully completed the Taekwondo Coaching Course were issued with a coaching certification equivalent to the NCAP technical if they did not possess any NCAP theory certification. This was because the requirement was for all participants to attend the theory course before the technical course.

The change means that members are free to attend either the NCAP Technical Course or the NCAP Theory Course first.

Those holding the taekwondo coaching certification can now apply for direct conversion even though they have not attended the theory course. The application must be submitted by 19 November 2010 on the attached form and accompanied by a copy of the coaching certificate and the administrative fee of $20.

An NCAP Technical (Level 1) course will be conducted on 4, 5, 11 and 12 December 2010. More details on the course and the registration form are attached.

Sensational K-Tigers

0

It turned out to be a 45-minute non-stop action-packed performance from the K-Tigers who displayed their skills and stamina at the Taekwondo Spectacular on Saturday 30 October 2010 at Toa Payoh Sports Hall. It was held through the collaboration of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF).

As the admission to the hall was on a first-come first-served basis, there was already a long queue of spectators waiting for the gates to be opened at 5.30pm – two hours before the shows started! At 7.15pm, the seating gallery was almost filled to the brim. The organizers closed the gates at 7.30pm. Quite a number of people had to be disappointed.

After the formalities including speeches by the Guest of Honor, Mr Seah Kian Peng (MP for Marine Parade Constituency) and Mr Oh Joon (Ambassador of the Republic of Korea), the K-Tigers took centre-stage. One amazing performance was followed by another without any break for the spectators to take their breath or show their appreciation.

Said STF President Milan Kwee: “I was delighted to see how the demonstration unfolded. The event was conducted smoothly. The crowd was excellent. And the performance was sensational.”

The best thing about the show: Admission was free!
