New Rule Interpretations for National Championships

For the National Championships on 11, 12, 25 and 26 August 2007, the latest rule interpretations will be used. The adoption of the new guidelines will improve the transparency of the competition.

Club representatives will be briefed on the changes on 22 July 2007 immediately after the Annual General Meeting at the National Training Centre. Team Managers and Coaches who wish to participate in the briefing are advised to attend the meeting as their club representatives or observers.

It will also be a good opportunity for them to clarify any doubts they may have regarding the coming Championships.

If any Team Managers or Coaches are unable to attend the meeting, they may consult kyorugi referees who have attended the annual referees’ seminar and assessment conducted on 1 July 2007 to find out about the changes.

Jumping with JUMP

0

The National Training Centre (NTC) was almost filled to the brim with officials and workshop participants on 28 June 2007.

The participants were understandably excited as it was their first experience with the JUMP.

The JUMP comprised a group of outstanding stage performers who had awed audiences in many countries including Korea, Hong Kong and England with their spectacular display of gravity-defying stunts. They were at the NTC to conduct a workshop.

After a short introduction, the cast leader taught the participants to roll, cartwheel and do handstands. The participants had lots of fun performing the unfamiliar movements and finding themselves in awkward positions. They certainly enjoyed most trying to duplicate a segment of JUMP fight scene.

The workshop was rounded off with a presentation of souvenirs by Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, to the cast members, Mr Thomas Ng (Managing Director, Century Events) and his staff, Mr Anthony Yeo (Sales Manager, Asiana Airlines), Mr Wilson Heng (Senior Sales Executive, Asiana Airlines) and Mr Adrian (SPH).

A Successful Partnership – PA and STF

The People’s Association (PA) and the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) Taekwondo Championships were successfully and smoothly staged on 23 and 24 June 2007 at Yishun Sports hall. The competition featured both poomsae (pattern) and kyorugi (sparring).

The competition saw Tampines North C C heading the medal tally with 8 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals followed by Yio Chu Kang C C (3-2-4), Paya Lebar Kovan CSC (3-1-1) and Aljunied C C (2-1-5). As expected, the event turned out to be highly competitive.

Many matches finished with close scores. A number of them went to the 4th and sudden-death round, putting the supporters on tenterhooks.

Most importantly, the event concluded on a happy note. And the primary objective of providing an opportunity for community bonding was met.

The camaraderie was evident in the poomsae team competition. Each team comprised at least two different ethnic groups. The beauty of it all – they performed with precision and in harmony!

The guest of honour, Mr Patrick Teo, BBM (Chairman, Constituency Sports Club Council) and special guest, Mr Jeremy Tay (Director, North West CDD, People’s Association) were all smiles at the end of the event.

The national demonstration team put up a spectacular performance in their honour. And what an awesome performance it was.

To reflect the importance of the event, Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, was present throughout the inaugural event.   He was visibly satisfied with the conduct of the tournament. At the end of the competition, he personally went round to thank the officials, referees and demonstrators for a job well done.

Mr Kwee would also like to put on record STF’s appreciation to the People’s Association for being a partner in the organizing of the event.

Wear STF-designed Uniform

0

In the recent tournaments, grading and other events organized by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) in which ‘dobok’ is the dress code, we found one or two members coming without the STF logo on their uniforms

We would like to remind all affiliates and their members that it is necessary to wear standard STF uniform including the STF crest when it is required for the event.

It can be unpleasant for all involved when we have to bar or disqualify anyone who has breached the uniform rule, from participation. Therefore, we ask for the co-operation of all affiliates and their members in this matter.
