Taekwondo Spectacular Is Back

Taekwondo Spectacular featuring numerous breathtaking stunts and gravity-defying movements is back with a difference. It will be presented by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) in conjunction with the Korea Festival 2011.

The event which will be held on Saturday 3 December 2011 at 7.30pm at Jurong East Sports Hall will involved a taekwondo legend, the World Taekwondo Federation demonstration team and the STF National Demonstration Team.

The legend? It is none other than the father of USA taekwondo, Grandmaster (GM) Jhoon Rhee, who taught taekwondo to arguably the best martial artist in the World, the late Bruce Lee and coached the renowned former World Heavyweight Champion Mohammad Ali the ‘Acu-Punch’ which Ali used to knock out Richard Dunn, the British Champion, in the first two minutes and five seconds of the fifth round of his title defense in Munich, Germany in 1976.

GM Rhee’s martial arts programme and philosophy of discipline, respect and personal responsibility were developed into a curriculum which was adopted by eight District of Columbia elementary schools in the early 1990s.

For Taekwondo Spectacular, GM Rhee, who is now 80 years old and can still perform 100 push-ups, will share with the spectators his philosophy.

The performance segment will showcase the products of the collaboration of WTF demonstrators with local performers. It promises to be a visual treat for the spectators.

Admission is free and on a first-come first served basis. The gate will be closed once the hall is filled. Last year, a number of spectators were locked out. Be early to avoid disappointment.
