The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) was awarded the Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Anniversary “Friends of Councils” Award 2014 on Wednesday 29 October 2014 at the Orchid Country Club.
It was in recognition of the strong partnership of STF with SSSC in the last 4 years.
The STF was pleasantly surprised to receive the award as it was appreciative of the opportunity to work with the SSSC in providing more value-added competition for taekwondo members.
STF Vice-President Ho Mun Wai received the award from the Guest of Honor for the event, Mr Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower.
Mr Chin Khee Shin, Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) 8th dan senior examiner, died on Sunday 26 October 2014 while recovering from an operation. His contemporaries in the sport and students were shocked and saddened by his unexpected demise.
Despite being weakened by his medical condition, Mr Chin’s passion for taekwondo which he practised and taught for more than 45 years was still strong. A month prior to his death, he attended a grading for TEAMgOLD members to lend his support for his students. He planned to be at the training session of TEAMgOLD a week ago but had to give it a miss because of another pressing engagement. Little did he know that it would be his last chance to be where he loved to be – that is at a taekwondo gymnasium where he could share his taekwondo knowledge and skills.
Mr Chin was an outstanding instructor. He produced many elite players and fine instructors when he was heading PAP Leng Kee Taekwondo Club. Some of his students are now teaching the sport and carrying on with his legacy. Most significantly, his students have the highest respect for him. They demonstrated it by honouring him not too long ago with a competition in his name – ‘Chin Kee Shin Cup’.
The STF recognized Mr Chin not only for his tremendous contribution in the various technical positions he held since its inception in 1974 but also his unflinching loyalty. In the early tumultuous years of the STF, Mr Chin had many opportunities to join a rival group whose interests were inconsistent to the vision of the organization. But he chose to be with the STF through thick and thin.
His passing is indeed a loss to taekwondo in Singapore.
On behalf of the taekwondo community in Singapore, the STF president, management committee and staff extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Mr Chin’s bereaved family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. And we wish them strength in their trying time as their lives will be different without him.
Those who wish to pay their last respect to Mr Chin may do so at his wake at Block 103 Edgefield Plains Multi-Purpose Hall until Wednesday.
The STF will be conducting another NCAP (Level 2) Technical Course to be held at J H Kim Institute (Millenia Walk) from Tuesday to Friday 10 to 13 February 2015 (9.00am to 3.00pm).

The United Nation Office of Sport on Development and Peace (UNOSDP) will be organizing Youth Leadership Camp to be held in Gwangju, Republic of Korea (dates to be confirmed) and Sendai, Japan (2 to 15 March 2015).
We have received an invitation from World Taekwondo Federation today for nominations of participants between the ages of 18 to 25 years.
The purpose of the camp is to bring together youth who have the potential to be community leaders in the field of sport for development. The camp will be both, theoretical and practical in nature and provide participants with a toolkit on how sport can be best used to improve the social conditions in the participant’s home communities.
However, each nominee MUST meet the following criteria.
The participants should be from the age of 18-25.
They should be currently volunteering or working in the sport for development field and involved with community programmes.
The participant should have a leadership role within their sport for development organization.
Since one of the objectives of the camp is to share best practices and experiences from the field, UNOSDP is looking for young people with great social skills who would be ready to present and share their work in public.
Most importantly UNOSDP is looking for participants who are motivated and dedicated to work in the field of sport for development and peace, bringing innovative ideas into their programmes and to this field.
Since the official language of the camps is English, it is essential that the candidate has excellent conversational skills in English.
There is strength in diversity and therefore we encourage persons with disabilities, people from different cultural backgrounds, with different experiences to come together to teach each other and to learn from one another.
All costs for the participants will be covered. NOTE: This does not include getting to and from airports in the home countries of the participants or the cost of the VISA application process.
Your nomination must be submitted to the STF by Friday 31 October 2014.
