Mr Chin Khee Shin, Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) 8th dan senior examiner, died on Sunday 26 October 2014 while recovering from an operation. His contemporaries in the sport and students were shocked and saddened by his unexpected demise.
Despite being weakened by his medical condition, Mr Chin’s passion for taekwondo which he practised and taught for more than 45 years was still strong. A month prior to his death, he attended a grading for TEAMgOLD members to lend his support for his students. He planned to be at the training session of TEAMgOLD a week ago but had to give it a miss because of another pressing engagement. Little did he know that it would be his last chance to be where he loved to be – that is at a taekwondo gymnasium where he could share his taekwondo knowledge and skills.
Mr Chin was an outstanding instructor. He produced many elite players and fine instructors when he was heading PAP Leng Kee Taekwondo Club. Some of his students are now teaching the sport and carrying on with his legacy. Most significantly, his students have the highest respect for him. They demonstrated it by honouring him not too long ago with a competition in his name – ‘Chin Kee Shin Cup’.

The STF recognized Mr Chin not only for his tremendous contribution in the various technical positions he held since its inception in 1974 but also his unflinching loyalty. In the early tumultuous years of the STF, Mr Chin had many opportunities to join a rival group whose interests were inconsistent to the vision of the organization. But he chose to be with the STF through thick and thin.
His passing is indeed a loss to taekwondo in Singapore.
On behalf of the taekwondo community in Singapore, the STF president, management committee and staff extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Mr Chin’s bereaved family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. And we wish them strength in their trying time as their lives will be different without him.
Those who wish to pay their last respect to Mr Chin may do so at his wake at Block 103 Edgefield Plains Multi-Purpose Hall until Wednesday.

Dr Jean-Marie Ayer, Secretary-General of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), on a two-day visit to Singapore. He arrived late evening on 13 October and departed on 15 October 2014.
During his short stay, he paid courtesy call to Mr Ng Ser Miang (IOC Executive Council member and Vice President of the Singapore National Olympic Council) and Mr Bob Gambardella (Chief of Singapore Sports Institute). He was also taken for a tour of the spanking new Sports Hub.

Dr Ayer also visited the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) office where he was briefed by Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, on the development of taekwondo in Singapore and the multifarious programs which were offered to its members. He was visibly impressed with the status of taekwondo in Singapore.

Showing interest in the further development of sport in Singapore, he asked numerous questions including the future direction of the organization and made several suggestions for the improvement of its elite program. At the end of the session, Mr Kwee thanked Dr Ayer for his invaluable input.
The STF Management hosted a dinner in honor of Dr Ayer on 14 October 2014.

Johnny Ang Yow Hua, 78, and Wong See Fook, 83, proved that taekwondo is a sport of life. Besides honing their skills regularly by themselves, they enjoyed training with members of TEAMgOLD every Sunday at the National Training Centre.
At their advanced age, they inspired many of the other younger participants with their energy and enthusiasm during training. Most of all, they showed an insatiable appetite to learn more.
Yow Hua and See Fook certainly deserved respect because they could not only perform the various sparring tactics and techniques and poomsae movements almost effortlessly but also outlast some of the ‘younger’ trainees.
Guests at the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) Anniversary Dinner on 21 June 2014 were privileged to watch a scintillating and entertaining performance by the two oldest taekwondo practitioners in Singapore.
In recognition of their technical ability, Yow Hua and See Fook were promoted to 6th and 3rd dan respectively on 7 October 2014. They received their promotion certificates from Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, at the STF Secretariat.

Congratulations to Yow Hua and See Fook on the promotion. The taekwondo community is proud of both of you.
