Refresher Seminar is on 2 September

0

The Kyorugi Referee Refresher Seminar scheduled on Sunday 19 August 2012 has been postponed to Sunday 2 September 2012 as the original date falls on a public holiday, Hari Raya Puasa.

19 August was offered to us by Republic Polytechnic. We did not mind the date as we had planned to have a separate seminar for Muslim referees.

Two days ago, Republic Polytechnic informed us that they discovered that they could not get their staff to assist us with the physical and logistic arrangements. Under the circumstances, we have no choice but to postpone the seminar.

The starting time remains at 9.00am and the other information is unchanged.

The registration fees are as follows.

  • On or before Tuesday 28 August 2012 – $30.00
  • On or before Thursday 30 August 2012 – $40.00
  • On the spot registration – $50.00

The registration form is attached.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to our national referees, especially those who have made special arrangements to be available as earlier scheduled.

Kyorugi Referee Refresher Seminar August 2012

0

The annual Kyorugi Referee Refresher Seminar will be held on Sunday 19 August 2012 from 9.00am to 1.00pm at the Republic Polytechnic.

All active kyorugi referees must attend the seminar to have their licenses to officiate extended by a year. Coaches who are national referees are also encouraged to participate in the seminar.   The knowledge will be invaluable to them if they wish to continue to be effective coaches.

Kyorugi referees with expired licenses may also attend the seminar. Their licenses will be renewed if they pass the assessment which will be conducted at the end of the seminar for all participants.

As the provision of referees is a pre-condition for participation in all STF organized or sanctioned tournaments, it is important for clubs to have their own pool of qualified referees.

The seminar will cover, among other things, the latest amendments to the Competition Rules and Regulations.

Participants are to come prepared with their ‘dobok’ and writing materials. They should be well prepared for the numerous tests which will be conducted to ensure that they are fit mentally and physically to officiate. They should also be ready to recite the pledge. Those who fail in any of the tests will have to be retested within a week or so.

We plan to end the seminar punctually. However, if the overwhelming number of participants does not allow us to do so, they must be prepared for the seminar to end later.

The registration fees are as follows.

–          On or before Tuesday 7 August 2012 – $30.00

–          On or before Thursday 16 August 2012 – $40.00

–          On the spot registration – $50.00

The registration form is attached.

Meeting WTF Founding President

0

Dr Kim Un-Yong, founding President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and former Vice-President of International Olympic Committee, was in Singapore for a short holiday. He was responsible for the elevation of the status of taekwondo as an Olympic sport.

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) hosted a dinner on Wednesday 4 July 2012 at Beng Hiang Restaurant in his honor to show its appreciation to Dr Kim for his contributions to the development of taekwondo in Singapore during his watch as WTF and Kukkiwon President.

In particular, through the recommendation of Dr Kim, the WTF sponsored the Singapore team in 1978 for the Pre-World Games. He had also offered invaluable ideas for the propagation of the sport whenever he had opportunities to meet with local officials.

At the dinner, which was also attended by HE Mr Oh Joon (Ambassador for the Republic of Korea), Dr Kim impressed everyone with his sharp wits, profound knowledge of taekwondo history and updated information of the sport. Most of all, they were awestruck by Dr Kim’s wisdom.
