To move with the times, the Management has decided to stop the practice of sending circulars by mail on 1 January 2007.  This method is slow and not as effective as we expect it to be.

From then on, all STF circulars will be emailed to you instead.  We would like to do so, if possible, well before the target date.  Therefore, we would appreciate it if you could let us have your email address if you have not done so as soon as possible.

We will endeavour to update STF website, www.stf.sg, regularly so that you can keep yourself informed of the latest development in the sport and the organization.

If you have any suggestion for the further improvement of the website, please email it to us at tkdf@pacific.net.sg.  However, if you choose to contribute to the improvement, we will welcome it.  Just let us know.

Taiwan-Singapore Exchange Programme

0

On 11 June 2006, members of the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) had a joint training session with visitors from the Taiwan Youth Taekwondo Club at the National Training Centre.  It was part of the exchange programme which the STF had with the Club since 1997.

The morning session attracted more than 50 poom belt holders.  Besides the usual warm-up and training, players from both sides had full-contact sparring.

The exchanges which were exciting and intense provided the participants with valuable lessons as their fighting styles, tactics and techniques were different.

More than 30 blackbelters participated in the afternoon session. The training was conducted by the visiting coach to give STF members a feel of the Taiwanese training methods.  Coach Chiang Chun-Hao was in his elements and the participants matched it with their enthusiasm.

During the break, STF President Milan Kwee presented all members of the visiting team with a souvenir each.  In return, the Club Team Leader, Lai Jung-Mao presented plaques to key officials of the STF.

All the participants in the exchange programme were glad that they were able to bring back some ideas.  Some of them planned to share them with other blackbelters and their students.

Eight-year old Mindy Low Lixian from Eunos TKD emerged as the star of the 1st National Young Junior Poomsae Championships held on 11 June 2006 at Toa Payoh Indoor Hall.

Mindy not only outperformed 15 other participants in her category but also won the hearts of the judges to take home the best overall performer award in the competition.  Her impressive display of skills and discipline also awed the STF President, Mr Milan Kwee.

Mr R Jeyaraman, one of the judges, was equally impressed. He said: “Yes, I have no doubt that she was the most outstanding performer. My fellow judges, Mr Chin Khee Shin and Mr. Steven Soh, also gave her high marks. Picking her as the best was obvious.”

Acme Is Still Number One

ACME Taekwondo proved that its earlier victory in the SPEX Taekwondo Championships held in December 2005 was no flash in the pan.  It again clinched the overall title in the SPEX ‘Best of the Best’ Championships staged on 19 March 2006 at Mountbatten Community Club

Collecting 22 gold, 14 silver and 1 bronze medals, ACME confirmed its strength in the Junior Division.  Aljunied C C, another club with a strong following of juniors, finished second with 8 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Said Mr Chow Pak Hong, who is the chairman of the SPEX programme and  organizing chairman of the event: “The standard of the junior players is getting better with each tournament.  I am delighted to see the progress.

“I believe that some of them will make it into the development squad and eventually, the national squad.”
