Please inform all your members who will be attending the seminar of the
change of time and venue. The change is necessary because of the
overwhelming response.
As we would like to start punctually, we would appreciate it if you
could inform them to get themselves ‘registered’ and in uniform before
8.30am. Registration will start at 8.00am.
Singapore finished second in the female division of the 11th Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championships which attracted 16 teams from 8 countries including powerhouses in the sport like China, Chinese Taipei and Iran.
The tournament held on 3 and 4 March 2007 in Hongkong allowed our players the opportunity to assess their skills among some of the best players in the region. They did well and had 2 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals and the second overall title to show for their efforts.
The two gold medals came from Lanetar Quek and Tessa Tang.Lanetar was in her elements when she kicked her way impressively, furiously and courageously to the final. Standing between her and the gold medal was the current SEA Games medalist from Malaysia. She was not intimidated by her opponent’s reputation or fine performance during the run-up to the meeting.
Drawing from her bag of tricks, Lanetar forced her opponent to make some uncharacteristic mistakes in order to score. When the bell signaled the end of the match, Lanetar was comfortably ahead. She triumphed 3-1.
In contrast, Tessa seemed to have it easier although she had a Taiwanese to contend with. The Taiwanese was determined to stop Tessa from taking the crown. But alas her determination was no match for Tessa’s tactics. She coolly chalked up the scores and ended the match 7-0 midway through the third round. According to the competition rule, a match had to be stopped and the winner declared if there was a 7-point gap.
The silver medal was contributed by Dawn Ang.
Dawn met the current SEA Games gold and Commonwealth silver medalist in the final. She knew that she had to give her all to give the Malaysian a good fight let alone beat her. Although she did that, the Malaysian had answers to everything Dawn threw at her. The result: 2-0 in her opponent’s favour.
The 5 bronze medals came from Jason Ong, Low Chuan Kai, Stella Lim, Joyce Lim and Jason Tan.
The success of the team could be attributed in no small part to the encouragement and support of Ms Ng Lee Noi (STF Treasurer), Mr and Mrs Darren Tang (parents of Charlotte and gold medalist Tessa), Mdm Ow Yong Lay Heok (Nicholas Lau’s mother), Michelle Ong (Jason Ong’s sister), Merly Laperme (Club Coach) and Vanessa Lau (Nicholas Lau’s sister) who were there for the players.

1. Submission for the Grading can only be at the STF office during office hours.
2. Please ensure that ALL grading cards are properly completed and duly endorsed. A recent photograph of the candidate must be attached.
3. For ALL candidates who are going for Brown 1 & above, please have the following documents during submission:
a. Candidate’s grading card
b. 1 photocopy of the candidate’s Identity Card (front & back) / Birth Certificate (for candidate below age of 12)
c. 2 recent IC / passport photographs of the candidate
d. Form B (duly completed)
Submission will not be accepted if any of the documents is not available or, for Form B, partially completed.
4. Submission will not be accepted if candidate fails to produce any of the documents mentioned above.
5. The last day of submission is on 15 March 2006 (Wednesday). Any submission after this date will be considered as LATE SUBMISSION.
6. Late submissions for candidates taking Brown 1 & above are to be done within two (2) weeks from 16 March 2006 (Thursday). Submission beyond the grace period of two (2) weeks WILL NOT be accepted. An administrative fee will be charged accordingly for late submission. The charges are as follows:

7. An administrative fee of SGD 5.00 will be charged for late submission of candidates taking all other grades except Brown 1 & above.
8. There will be a roll call at 1.30PM for candidates taking Senior Brown 1 & above. Candidates who fail to turn up for the roll call will be considered as ABSENT and not be allowed to take the grading.
9. Candidates are to turn up in proper dress code (as stipulated by the STF) for the grading. Candidates who fail to comply with the dress code will not be allowed to take the grading.
10. Supplementary Grading can only be conducted two (2) weeks before or after the Centralised Grading and will be subjected to the approval of the Grading Department.
11. Candidates will be taking the grading at their own risk and therefore will not hold the Federation, the Grading Department or anyone so concerned, responsible for any injuries, accidents or mishaps that may befall on them during the course of the grading.

The Federation will be conducting two selection trials for the 8th Asean Taekwondo Championships which will be held from 7 to 10 June 2006 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

We would like to invite your players to participate in the trials. Please fill in the attached form and submit it to the Secretariat on or before the closing dates. We reserve the right not to accept late submission. There is no limit to the number of players you can field. However, only Singapore Citizens are eligible to participate in the trials.
Registered players for the trials are to report at the National Training Centre at 7.30pm SHARP for the weigh-in and selection trial. They shall be considered for the category based on their actual weight on that day of the weigh-in and not according to the weight submitted in the form as we do not want to disqualify any players. No weight allowance will be given.
Players from the shortlisted trial will be eligible for the final trial if they fulfill the 80% attendance from the time they were shortlisted.

For the fixtures, the top two players will face the bronze medallists they have not met in the last tournament. The fixtures can be downloaded from the STF website (www.stf.sg) or collected from the Secretariat on 13 March 2006.
The players will be weighed before each match at the inspection desk. The weight difference between players shall not be more than 3 kg. If it exceeds 3 kg, the match will be cancelled. The winners will be decided based on a one-minute target sparring to be judged by a senior referee.
Champions and runners-up will receive trophies while the rest will be given a souvenir each. All participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.
To register for the event, the player must complete the attached form and return it to the Secretariat before 10 March 2006. The STF will not be responsible for missing forms sent by mail. It will be presumed that unregistered players have opted out.

A poomsae seminar will be conducted for blackbelt holders to acquaint them with the latest development of poomsae; equip them with the finer points of the various movements and provide them a forum to clarify any doubts they have pertaining to poomsae and grading matters.

As poomsae is essential for competition and grading, we urge all blackbelt holders, especially those who are coaching, to register early because of the limited number of participants the NTC can accommodate. Registration will be on a first-come first-served basis.

Come September 2006, poomsae competition will become an international event with the organisation of the 1st WTF World Poomsae Taekwondo Championship.
After that, more of such competitions will be staged at continental and regional levels.In view of the development of poomsae, we have decided to organise the National Poomsae Tournament on 16 April 2006.
It will be used as a platform for us to identify potential performers for future international tournament.
We would like to invite your members to participate in the competition and encourage you to expose them.
379 players from 33 clubs vied for honours in the SPEX Taekwondo 2005. The event held on 18 and 26 December 2005 at Geylang West CC.
ACME Taekwondo took the overall title with 24 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Aljunied CC with 6 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze medals finished second followed by Eunos CC with 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.
The tournament was well-organised and the players showed skill and tactical awareness.
The referees also did a good job in officiating the matches.
Guest of Honour, Mr Lim Han Cheow PBM, witnessed the event and gave away the prizes.
