The STF is the Singapore national governing body for Taekwondo. Apart for being responsible for the preparation and performance of Singapore’s elite taekwondo athletes at international championships, striving towards achieving sporting excellence, the STF seeks to expand its membership and provide its members with better quality activities and services. JOB DESCRIPTION

You will be primarily responsible for developing and training the National Kyorugi Team (including the Youth Team) in preparation for podium success as well as executing the Singapore Taekwondo Federation’s (STF) Multi-Year Sports Plan (MYSP) and High-Performance Plan. As a collaborative leader, you will also play a critical role as a role model to our National Athletes and in building sustainable relationships with key stakeholders.

SUMMARY OF ROLES

Under the supervision of STF’s High Performance Standing Committee, the National Trainer, Kyorugi, will work in the following areas:

  1. To train the National Kyorugi Team (including the Youth Team) in preparation for various competitions, which include, but is not limited to the Major Games, National Championships, local and overseas competitions.
  2. To help prepare, formulate and implement short, medium and long-term plans for the development of the National Taekwondo athletes in Singapore.
  3. To work with the Coaching Committee and/or High-Performance Committee in the development of training plans.
  4. Able to double up as a training or sparring partner with athletes during training.
  5. To train the National Kyorugi Team during overseas training and competitions, and assist with the Poomsae team (if required).
  6. To scout and identify talented athletes for the National Squad (Kyorugi).
  • Ensure that appropriate supervision, directly or indirectly, is provided to all athletes during Kyorugi training sessions.
  • To conduct coaching courses and clinics.
  • To ensure the safety of participants and the proper use and safe-keeping of all training equipment, tidiness of the National Training Centre or any other athlete training venue.
  • To mentor local coaches and national athletes.

Development

  1. To advance the knowledge of local coaches in cooperation with the Technical Standing Committee and through the Coaching Development Program (CDP)
  • To work with SportSG to develop and carry out the sport science-based development initiatives related to the Athlete Development Program and CDP.
  • To work with stakeholders such as the National Youth Sport Institute and the Singapore Sport Institute, to develop and implement methods for testing athletes’ potential and performance using sport science and technology.

Transfer of Expertise

 

  1. To provide comprehensive apprenticeship training for a core group of STF-identified coaches.
  • To provide mentorship and training to prepare identified local coaching personnel to possibly assume the incumbent’s role in future.

The role will be reviewed regularly and may include other duties, from time to time, required by the STF, Sport SG and SNOC. This job description is not to be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree with a major in Sports Administration, Sports Science, Physical Education, Taekwondo or equivalent experience.
  • WT International Coach Certification level 1 preferred
  • SEA Games gold, Asian Games medal or equivalent preferred
  • 2 to 3 years of international coaching experience desired
  • Proven superior Kyorugi technical skills.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of technical and tactical Kyorugi knowledge and experience in coaching at G2 and above games as well as athlete preparation for major games.


Kukkiwon International Taekwondo Master/Examiner course

Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) is planning to organise The Kukkiwon International Taekwondo Master/Examiner course on 7 – 10 March 2023 and 11 – 12 March 2023 respectively.

The Kukkiwon International Taekwondo Master course is a 40hrs program that embraces a wide range of topics, composed of 4 themes Taekwondo Theories e.g. History, Coaching, Taekwondo Practical training in Poomsae and Kyorugi and Techniques training.

The course will allow our local taekwondo coaches to upskill their technical knowledge and pedagogy skill by interacting with international experts and other fellow taekwondo practitioners. The upskilling of our local coaches will also improve the standard of our athletes at the grassroots level which will positively influence our high performance in the future.

Coach Induction Course 27 August 2022

The next Coach Induction Course for affiliate members who wish to obtain the coach pass will be held as follows:

Recitation of the STF Pledge is mandatory.

Fee  :  On or before Friday 18 August 2022, 5.00pm – $64.20

           On or after 22 August 2022 – $107.00

Dress Code  :  Dobok

Eligibility  :  At least 1st Dan Black Belt / 15 years old & above

Maximum Number of Participants: 50

On successful completion of the course, participants with a minimum NCAP (Level 1) Technical or Poomsae Coach (Level 1P) qualification may apply for the appropriate passes to accompany players to the competition area depending on the level of their pass.

World Taekwondo (WT) Online Referee Training Program (Poomsae & Kyorugi)

World Taekwondo is organising  the above mentioned course for all aspiring IR’s and Nationally Certified Referees. Participants will learn valuable information to increase your knowledge of refereeing and help with your development. For participants who wish to become a certified IR in the future, this course is a prerequisite to attend the future WT OFFLINE Poomsae International Referee Seminar to become a certified IR. There will be 2 runs of courses as per WT’s website

UPDATE ON 2022 SPARRING WORKSHOP

Dear affiliates, to allow more members to be able to participate in the 2022 sparring workshop, the federation has extended the deadline of registration.

The workshop will be conducted by Coach Ko Jae Pil who is Team Singapore’s Kyorugi Coach. He is a very experienced coach and has many years of international coaching under his belt. Through this workshop, participants will be able to learn more about the new WT Kyorugi rules, new fighting styles and also the do’s and don’ts while competing in the new WT Kyorugi rule.

Participants are to take note of the following details:

  • 11 years old and above
  • Red belt and above
  • STF approved uniform with full PPE (body protector, full guards, head gear, mouth piece), advisable to bring along face shield

Participants who attend the workshop can be exempted once from the sparring component during their next grading. The validity of this exemption will be for 2 years.

47th NATIONAL TAEKWONDO KYORUGI CHAMPIONSHIPS ( AMBASSADOR 2022 )

The 47th National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championships ( Ambassador 2022 ) will be on 3 & 4 September 2022 (Saturday and Sunday) and 10 & 11 September 2022 (Saturday and Sunday) at Our Tampines Hub, Level 3 Community Auditorium,1 Tampines Walk, Singapore 528523.

Documents pertaining to the competition are attached.

For this year’s competition, please note the following information.

  • The organizers will not accept incomplete submission.  Submission after the closing date – that is, 11 August 2022 (Thursday) after 1600 hours – will be rejected.
  • Participating team must provide at least one referee per every 30 participants for the duration of the championships to qualify for participation.  The referee may not be the same person.  For example, it is acceptable for a club to submit four referees, one each for every competition day.  A club will be barred from future participation if its referee fails to fulfil his or her obligations without the approval of the Tournament Chairman. 
  • Each affiliate is allowed to field in more than one player per weight category per division. 
  • The eligibility grade for the national championships shall be based on June 2022, second quarter grading season or the player’s last grading before June 2022 if he or she did not take his or her grading in that month.
  • Clubs must produce sufficient coaches to take care of their own athletes during the competition especially when 4 courts are used. Athletes will be disqualified if coaches from their clubs are not available to accompany them to the arena. It will not be acceptable to use the excuse that the athlete’s coach is at another court as the competition cannot be delayed
  • Introduce head kicks for cadets (12 to 14) and juniors (15 to 17) to provide them the opportunity to optimize their skill development. There will be two categories for the two divisions – that is cadet and junior players can participate in either the head kick or non-kick category.  For the head kick category, players will be required to wear headgear with protective face shield.
