SKILLSFUTURE FELLOWSHIPS 2021 – A FIRST FOR STF!

0

STF is proud to announce that Mr Lai Han Seng, our very own Secretary General, has been conferred the prestigious SkillsFuture Fellowships 2021. He was presented with the Award on 10 December 2021, by President Halimah Yacob. This is a first ever achievement by a Singaporean Taekwondo coach.

The SkillsFuture Fellowships, in joint partnership with tripartite partners, recognise Singaporeans who demonstrate skills mastery. Not only have they acquired depth in their skills, they are also advocates of lifelong learning, devoted to mentoring and developing others.

Mr Lai’s commitment to the sport of Taekwondo is undeniable. Besides achieving his black belt ranks and completing numerous certifications, to become a qualified International Referee and internationally certified instructor, he developed himself in areas including Sports & Exercise Science, Sports Nutrition and even Early Childhood Education, to improve his coaching pedagogy.

To help promote the sport, he is heavily involved in the Singapore Taekwondo Federation as a board member, course conductor and referee, and volunteers as a coach for the Children’s Aid Society. Additionally, he supports aspiring coaches by donating to the Republic Polytechnic Education Fund’s study awards through his company.

We are proud to celebrate Mr Lai’s accolade and achievement as we wish him all the best as he continues to inspire and make a difference to the development of Singapore Taekwondo.

Congratulations To Our Athletes

With the prevailing COVID-19 impacting sports events globally, World Taekwondo successfully organised the 2021 WT Online Poomsae Championships for member countries. This was a welcomed opportunity for our National Team Poomsae athletes to perform.

We are pleased to announce that 2 of our Junior players and 1 Master player (Over 65 Category) qualified for the final round which ended on 28 April 2021 and 31 October respectively. Our players gave their best and performed creditably well.

Mr Nicholas Khaw – 7 Of 25 Position Individual Recognise Poomsae

Mr Darren Yap – 7 Of 15 Position Individual Freestyle Poomsae

They are the first junior players in Singapore to reach the finals of the World Championships under the cut-off system.  However, it was not the first time that Mr Nicholas Khaw surpassed his personal achievements.  In November 2018, at the 2018 World Poomsae Championships held in Chinese Taipei, Mr Nicholas Khaw finished in 5th position out of 27 contenders under the knockout system.*

Sister Linda Sim 1 Of 5 Position Individual Recognised Poomsae

In 2018, Sister Linda Sim won a medal at the the first ever World Poomsae Championships, beating the defending champion Bronwyn Butterworth from Australia in the quarter-final. This year, Sister Linda’s perseverance and determination made her the first Singaporean to clinch a Gold Medal for Singapore at the World Stage.

We would like to congratulate Mr Nicholas Khaw, Mr Darren Yap and Sister Linda Sim for their excellent achievements at this outing, reaching new heights in performance, doing STF proud and keeping the Singapore flag flying high and honorably.
