Passing of WTF President Choue’s Father

0

Mr Milan Kwee, STF President extended the condolences of the taekwondo community in Singapore to Dr Choue Chungwon, President of World Taekwondo Federation, on the demise of his beloved father, Dr Young Seek Choue, on 18 February 2012.

The late Dr Choue was the Founder and Chairman of Kyung Hee University which is one of the top education institutions in Korea known for its international programs.  In 1979 he also founded GCS International, a Non-Government Organization with a consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.  In 1981, as President of the International Association of University Presidents, he proposed the International Day of Peace which was adopted by the UN General Assembly later that year.

The elder Choue was indeed a man who had served humanity nobly and with humility. His death is a loss to the Korean community and the word.

In his message to WTF President, Mr Kwee also said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your bereaved family.”

Mr Kwee will represent STF at the funeral services which will be held on 23 February 2012 at 9.00am at the Grand Peace Palace at Kyung Hee University’s Seoul Campus.

Constitution Amended

0

At the Extraordinary Meeting held on 18 February 2012, Club representatives in attendance unanimously endorsed the proposed amendments to the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) Constitution to comply with the Singapore Sports Council requirements.

Mr Milan Kwee, STF President, explained during the meeting that the amendments were necessary to provide, among other things, a provision for succession. He said that he was for succession as it would be good for the organization.

Mr Kwee pointed out that he had in fact initiated the succession process by convincing former 1st and 2nd Vice-Presidents, Mr Steven Soh and Mr RA Jeyaraman respectively, to take a different role so that he could induct Mr Ho Mun Wai (STF 1st Vice-President) and Dr Lee Chee Wee (STF 2nd Vice-President). The idea was to groom either one of them to take over the leadership role of the organization.

When asked if they would support, by show of hands, the amendments, everyone present raised their hands without reservation.

The STF would like to put on record its appreciation to all affiliates which were representated at the meeting.

Taekwondo in Singapore is Doping-Free

0

Taekwondo in Singapore is doping-free. That is what the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) wants. That is what the taekwondo community should be proud of as it reflects important values of the sport.

The best way to prove that taekwondo in Singapore is doping-free is for taekwondo members to be tested.

The STF has agreed to collaborate with Antidoping Singapore on the In-Competition Testing and the Education Outreach to keep taekwondo doping-free.

All coaches have to ensure that their players do not unwitting consume any drug. It is easier not to take drugs than to explain how the drugs got into your system by accident or out of ignorance.

If your players are on medication containing substances on the prohibited list, they should be advised to apply for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). Click the ‘Say No! to Doping’ icon on STF website, www.stf.sg, to find out more on TUE.

The STF will not hesitate to take serious disciplinary action against any member caught using performance enhancing drugs.
