Kukkiwon Certification

0

In response to numerous queries, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like to clarify on its Kukkiwon certification position.

The STF encourages all its poom and black belt holders, especially those who wish to participate in international competitions and seminars, to apply for Kukkiwon certification.

Those who are interested to apply for Kukkiwon certification should apply through their respective clubs.  The current rates including administrative fees are as follows.

  • 1st danS$125.00
  • 2nd danS$160.00
  • 3rd danS$210.00
  • 4th danS$265.00
  • 5th danS$525.00
  • 6th danS$615.00
  • 7th dan S$790.00

All qualified members of STF-affiliated clubs should apply for the certification immediately after the announcement of their grading results so that they will not lose out in their Kukkiwon ranking seniority.

For example if you obtain your 1st dan in January 2009 and 2nd dan in January 2010, you cannot apply for 2nd dan Kukkiwon in 2010 if you do not have a 1st dan Kukkiwon.  In that case, you have to apply for your 1st dan in January 2010 and wait for January 2011 before you can apply for the next grade.  That means you will be 1 year, in term of Kukkiwon grade, behind your contemporaries who had applied.

Kukkiwon certificates issued through the STF bear the signatures of both the Kukkiwon President and STF President.  Kukkiwon certificates without the signature of the STF President are not recognized by the STF.

And holders of such certificates will not receive the support and/or recommendation of STF for participation at competitions, courses and other activities organized or sanctioned by the following organizations:

  • International Olympic Committee
  • Asian Olympic Council
  • World Taekwondo Federation
  • Asian Taekwondo Union
  • Asean Taekwondo Federation

Please check with Jolene, Theresa or Rosalind at 63451491 if you require clarifications on the conversion process.

Target of 100 Tables Hit

0

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) Anniversary Dinner and Dance which will be held on Saturday 19 June 2010 at Suntec International Convention Hall receives overwhelming support from affiliate members and well-wishers.

The organizers’ target of 100 tables was reached on 26 May 2010 when Megaforce Taekwondo purchased the 100th table for the function with the ‘we are family’ theme.

Yes, taekwondo family members have shown tremendous support for all activities organized by the STF and it certainly presages well for the future of the organization.

Now the organizers are looking forward to surpassing its target and encouraging those who have not bought the tickets to do so in order not to miss the color, excitement and festivity of the evening. As the function hall can accommodate a maximum of 110 tables, the STF urges members to pick up the tickets from the Secretariat before they run out.

The program for the evening starts at 6.30pm with a cocktail reception and includes imaginative games, sensational entertainment and attractive prizes.

STF President Milan Kwee said: “I am delighted to learn that we have hit the 100 mark and would like to thank one and all for their support and contribution to the event.”

Thank you all indeed. The STF cannot make it without you. See you at STF greatest gathering ever for such function.

Family Performances Receive the Loudest Applause

The National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships staged on 22 and 23 May 2010 would be remembered for the family event. The event was introduced to encourage families to train together and compete together. The primary aim was to foster family bonding.

When the first family took to the arena, the attention was drawn to the performance of the father and child. Both were yellow belts and they synchronized well to reveal the amount of effort they had put in training together.

Eight families were shortlisted for the finals. On the recommendation of the President of Singapore Taekwondo Federation, all were awarded medals in recognition of their efforts, performances and sporting spirit.

The title for the inaugural family event was captured by Lee Thiam Huat and his daughter, Lee Yan Ting.

The organizers were pleased that the event attracted a record number of 1,164 participants.

All the results for the competition are attached.

Unarmed Combat Course Results

80 participants went through the unarmed combat course (Level 1) held on 8, 9, 15 and 16 May 2010 at the National Training Centre.

The course was conducted by Leon Koh under the supervision of RA Jeyaraman, Martial Arts Committee Chairman.  They were assisted by Peter Wong and Brian Peh.

All the participants were attentive and followed the instructions given to them. It was also obvious that many of them did their own training as their effort was expressed during the tests.

Those who passed the tests will be exempted from the unarmed combat component required of candidates going for the 2nd poom or 2nd dan.  They may also proceed to the next level.

Congratulations to all successful candidates!
